After LAS-SciM

Transfer

The Science and Math track of the Liberal Arts and Sciences Program has Articulation Agreements with the following institutions:

  • Brooklyn College, CUNY

An Articulation Agreement is a written contract or partnership between Guttman Community College and a senior college/university that outlines agreed upon coursework that will transfer over to that particular institution. Students who complete their coursework and meet the requirements specified by the receiving institution(s) upon applying will be admitted and those completed courses will be applied towards the baccalaureate degree.

Meet LAS-SciM Graduates

Jasmine Welcome

When Jasmine Welcome ’18 originally picked the LAS-SciM track, she had wanted to be a nurse. Gradually, she got interested in nutrition and, after graduating from Guttman, transferred to Lehman College to pursue the dietetics, food, and nutrition major. Jasmine expects to earn her Bachelor of Science in 2021 and will seek her professional goal of becoming a registered dietitian or nutrition counselor. Following her passion, she has initiated a project to create a nutrition program for children with the bone disease osteogenesis imperfecta, sharing her ideas on Instagram. During the fall of 2020, Jasmine plans to learn about how hospitals prepare food for patients with different conditions and how to run a nutrition department by doing an internship at an NYC healthcare facility.

Stella the Grizzly, GCC's mascot

With interests encompassing both the arts and the sciences, Angel Gomez ’18 truly captures the comprehensive nature of the LAS-SciM track and its benefits to a broadly curious mind. After exploring the track’s multidisciplinary course offerings at Guttman, Angel transferred to Lehman College, where he has been working on a double-major in English and biology. Once he graduates in 2021, Angel will use his wide-ranging skills and knowledge to either become a teacher or apply to medical school.

Ordaz Cruz

For Cruz Ordaz ’18, science is a way to use facts and data to make a difference. He was initially attracted to the LAS-SciM track’s table at Guttman’s annual Major Day event. He has served Guttman students through the challenges of academic life and biology lab work as a Peer Mentor. Cruz has also volunteered with the Mexican Coalition for the Empowerment of Youth and Families for years, most recently empowering the Mexican community in New York City during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since graduating, Cruz has continued his studies at the City College of New York, where he was nominated for an honors society. After completing his bachelor’s degree in geology, Cruz aims to work on hazardous clean-up efforts with an organization such as the Environmental Protection Agency or do research on seismic activity in Mexico.
