Scott E. Evenbeck, Founding President of Stella and Charles Guttman Community College, announced that he will retire at the end of June 2020.
Recruited by CUNY because of his deep expertise in first-year college experience, Evenbeck joined the planning team of the New Community College in January 2011. From then on, he has kept the College’s focus on student support and success. He played an instrumental role in achieving the transformative gift given to CUNY and the College by the Stella and Charles Guttman Foundation in 2013.
Under Evenbeck’s leadership, Guttman Community College has consistently achieved graduation and retention rates far exceeding the national average and has been distinguished as one of the top community colleges in the nation.
Scott Evenbeck has spent over fifty years in higher education. In a statement to the College community, Evenbeck said, “It has been my great honor to work with you in launching our new college, and I thank you for your support of our students and each other … The College is on a remarkable trajectory with faculty and staff ensuring that Guttman builds on our legacy of student challenge and support, focused on innovation and continuous improvement. It is such a gift to be a partner with each of you in this work.”
