It Only Takes a SPARK

SPARK Club logoGuttman SPARK (Students Promoting Attitudes of Kindness and Respect) Club had a flurry of activities this semester that held true to its purpose and objectives. The SPARK Club aims to give all Guttman students an opportunity to enhance campus climate and to engage in positive behaviors that promote a sense of community and belonging. To achieve this, students engaged in a flood of events geared towards inclusion of diverse groups and provided service-oriented and volunteering activities and programming. In addition, all these activities aim to promote tolerance, respect and engagement.

On October 8, students acknowledged National Teacher’s Day where they recognized their favorite teacher with kind thoughts on social media.

On October 16, SPARK members collaborated with Single Stop and Office of Student Conduct to produce World Food Day and Conflict Resolution Engagement at Guttman. SPARK Team distributed snack packs to students in effort to tackle global hunger. In addition, students were asked to share their conflict resolution strategies.

November is CUNY Month, and in the spirit of giving back, SPARK created a Treat for Toys initiative in an effort to donate toys to the New York Presbyterian Children’s Hospital. Because of the generosity of Guttman’s students and staff in supporting this initiative, 66 more children will get much-needed toys for Christmas while they are recovering.

SPARK Club ended 2019 with a bang by producing SPARKFest. Aimed at community building, the end-of-semester event allowed team members to show appreciation to other students and celebrate all their hard work with games and prizes.
