To celebrate LGBTQ+ History, Guttman Community College will feature an array of events throughout the month of October. Located in the heart of New York City – the birthplace of the LGBTQ+ Rights Movement and home to a vibrant LGBTQ+ community – the College is proud to honor the history and the future of our LGBTQ+ family.

Among a long list of happenings taking place throughout New York City, Guttman will host two noteworthy events. LGBTQ+ Celebration: Visibility & Acceptance with the Wellness Office on October 21st at 3:00 pm on Zoom, will provide space for LGBTQ+ community members and supporters to discuss the current issues surrounding the views on visibility and acceptance within the LGBTQ+ community. On October 26th at 3:00 pm, The Office of Student Leadership & Campus Life, will host Radical Queer Love: Emergence of Jotería for Queer Latinx/a/o Students. The Instagram live event streaming from the @GuttmanCC account will feature Scholar/Activist Sergio Gonzalez, who will discuss co-creating counternarratives of queer Latinx/a/o individuals within higher education. For a full list of events, go to the LGBTQ+ Celebration calendar page.

In support of the month-long celebration, Guttman President Larry Johnson, Jr. said, “Guttman Community College is proud to celebrate LGBTQ+ History. We are honored to support the LGBTQ+ community in a city steeped in its history and legacy. Guttman is dedicated to providing an inclusive and equitable learning and working environment, and we will continue our mission to ensure all members of the Grizzly family feel seen, heard, and understood.” Vice President of Student Engagement Charles H. Pryor, II, endorsed the president’s statement, saying, “At Guttman, we want all students and community members to feel seen and know that their identity is respected. Our community is committed to being inclusive and celebrating our uniqueness and histories.”

Please join us in celebrating the impact and importance of the LGBTQ+ community not only in October but throughout the year.
