It’s back! Guttman Community College is flying into the 2022-2023 academic year with the 11th installment of its signature Summer Bridge Program from August 22nd-August 26th. Fueled by our generous donors, the Robinhood Foundation, this 5-day program will give over 600 new students the unique opportunity to explore the concept of community through an academic lens while also exploring their own concepts of community as Guttman students.

Allyson Bregman, Director of Curriculum and First-Year Experience, and Victoria Romero, Director of Advising and Transfer Support, lead the charge alongside the Bridge Team, consisting of our phenomenal faculty and staff. “Victor Hugo once articulated that ‘nothing else in the world…is so powerful as an idea whose time has come.’ This sentiment most resonates with me, as I reflect on this moment in Guttman’s history. Students will begin their academic journey by participating in the Bridge program. This program gives students an early opportunity to connect with faculty, advisors, and many of the support offices on campus; this connection is key to students experiencing a sense of belonging. A proven model of success, Guttman faculty and staff remain committed to fostering an ecosystem focused on academic excellence and equitable outcomes,” stated President Larry Johnson.

The 2022 Summer Bridge program will feature a hybrid format to accommodate the post-pandemic transition back to campus, allowing students to engage in person with faculty, peers, Student Success Advocates, and other helpful Guttman resources. We are so excited to host students on campus Monday and Tuesday! One of the highlights of the in-person sessions is the open discussion of the common read for this year’s program, City Limits, a selection from Colson Whitehead’s The Colossus of New York, which explores how individuals have their “own private New York,” establishing their own definitions and expressions of community based on their experiences in the city. After their first two days on campus, these connections will continue to be supported asynchronously for the remainder of Summer Bridge. Summer Bridge 2022 will conclude on Monday, August 29th, with a celebratory Convocation and Presidential Installation.

It’s a fantastic time to be a Grizzly!
