The Divisions of Student Engagement and Academic Affairs provide a variety of academic support services for Guttman students. This wide-ranging support reflects our commitment to educational access and best practices, as well as enhances the effectiveness of the College’s unique instructional model. The various academic supports enable students to practice and improve particular academic skills, review and examine course content, and become proficient users of academic technology.

The multiple academic supports offered are designed to meet various learning styles and support academic student success at Guttman. Students are encouraged to utilize academic supports early and continually throughout the year. Read below for the various academic supports available.

Meet-Ups & Direct Connect: Peer Mentoring

Meet-Ups are collaborative group study sessions facilitated by Peer Mentors (current undergraduate CUNY students) and are available for Writing, Statistics, Algebra, Chemistry, Biology, and Information Technology support and are open to all current Guttman Students. If you would like to connect 1-on-1 with a Peer Mentor for a ‘Direct Connect’, please seek them out via Starfish to schedule an appointment. Topics for Direct Connect include time management, study skills and test-taking strategies, organizational tips, getting involved/Guttman resources, your job or internship experience, and your overall Guttman experience.

The Library: Academic Databases, Live Library Chat, Librarian Consultations

The Library is here to assist and support students with their coursework and research! We offer off-campus, online access to OneSearch and many academic databases, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Here are the ways that the Library can support you:

One on One appointments with a Librarian is a personalized and interactive service available for Guttman students.  As a student, you can reserve personal time to meet with a Librarian virtually through Zoom.  A Librarian will be available to provide assistance with conducting research for your assignments. For more information on how to access this service, go to My Guttman (http://my.guttman.cuny.edu). Login using your CUNY First credentials or your Guttman username and password.  Once logged in, Click on “Starfish”>Services.  Select “Library and Research Assistance.”

Chat with a Librarian is new service available to Guttman students! Students can now chat with a librarian for on-the-spot support. Reference staff will be available 24/7 to assist students with navigating the library’s website, finding articles and information needed to complete assignments. For more information on how to access this Chat with a Librarian, visit the library’s website: guttman.cuny.edu/library/

All Chat with a Librarian inquiries are hosted through our LibChat database. Students can chat with reference staff by simply visiting our homepage.  Under the “Contact Us Section,” enter your name and the question you would like to ask.  Click on “Start Chat” to be connected with a Reference Librarian.

Our staff is answering the phone live, replying to voicemails and emails, and providing support in real time during our regular operating hours for Spring I 2021: Mon – Fri, 8am – 8pm and Sat, 10am-4pm.

In addition, our Librarians are available to meet with students for individual or small group consultations on Zoom. Students can schedule a Zoom consultation by emailing library@guttman.cuny.edu.
