1. C: Phase Transitions

  • Please be aware that Guttman Community College follows CUNY’s 12-6 schedule.
  • Guttman senior leadership and the college-wide Guttman Reopening Committee will consult with each other constantly to assess if the College is ready to progress from one stage to the next. The Guttman Reopening Committee will meet every two weeks for the foreseeable future.
  • Assessment of each phase as it progresses, with an effort to begin planning for the next phase early, as a function of assessment outcomes.
  • To reduce disruption, each phase after Phase 1 is expected to last approximately one semester, contingent on CUNY and NYS requirements and health outcomes. However, gradual reopening of Atrium and Library/Information Commons can be coordinated more flexibly.
  • In-person classes and labs should be determined on a semester-by-semester basis, with the next phase planned for and announced by the middle to the last third of the preceding semester, if at all possible (see Section III.A).
  • Campus and community rates show no increased risk of infection, a decline in COVID transmissions in the city, a “R” rate that meets City and State guidelines, and none to minimal transmission and spread on campus.
  • Available PPE and sufficient staffing/budget to move to the next phase.

  • Incidence of COVID-19 on campus that is not successfully contained.
  • Increase in COVID cases in the city.
  • Significant public transportation risk.

  • Significantly increasing infection rates on campus
  • Increase in COVID cases citywide
  • Increasing public transportation risk
