A Guttman Peer Leader is:

  • A confidant, guide, academic resource, coach, role model, and friend.
  • Entrusted with facilitating the care, support, and learning of new and continuing students.
  • Knowledgeable about campus resources, policies, and culture.
  • Willing to share information, experiences, and accomplishments in a non-competitive way.
  • Open, understanding, and approachable.

The Peer Leadership Program is an integral component of the academic and co-curricular student experience at Guttman Community College. All Peer Leaders help ease the transition from high school to college, and coach students through their continued educational career while at Guttman. Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Life, Peer Leaders are visible, active, and invested in the development of an inclusive, academically-focused community.

Peer Leaders can be found throughout campus, but mostly in the Office of Student Life and within the Compass in the Atrium. Peer Leaders are active participants in the Bridge Program and first-year learning communities, and they plan and facilitate social and educational programs for the entire campus community.

Peer Leaders also have the opportunity to become Wellness Ambassadors and/or Transfer Mentors.

After successfully completing their first academic semester, students have the opportunity to apply for a Peer Leader position. To learn more about the program, please visit the Student Life Office (004, Lower Level) or email StudentLife@guttman.cuny.edu. You can also learn more about the program in this video.
