New York, N.Y. – October 21, 2022 – Wendy F. Hensel, Executive Vice Chancellor and University Provost of The City University of New York, will continue her inaugural “listening tour” of all 25 CUNY campuses when she visits Stella and Charles Guttman Community College on October 26th, 2022. The listening tour offers students, faculty, and staff an opportunity to connect with Executive Vice Chancellor Hensel and, in turn, for the Executive Vice Chancellor to connect with each campus community.
As a part of her visit to Guttman Community College, Executive Vice Chancellor Hensel will participate in a one-hour town hall during which students, faculty, and staff can ask questions, in real time, about CUNY matters. On October 26th, Guttman College will have an opportunity to highlight its outstanding accomplishments and diversity. Members of the Guttman community will, moreover, be able to share their ideas about what topics and issues CUNY as a whole ought to prioritize.
In addition to the town hall, Executive Vice Chancellor Hensel’s visit to Guttman will include meetings with the College President, Dr. Larry Johnson and Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, Dr. Nicola Blake, the President’s Strategy and Implementation Team, a tour of campus resources, and meetings with students and faculty.
Johnson stated, “The Guttman community is elated to welcome Provost Hensel to our student-centered ecosystem; additionally, we are excited to collaborate with her at a most pivotal moment in the college’s history,” said President Larry Johnson.”
Blake added, “As the College expands its academic offerings and engages in deep conversations around curriculum and programming, we are incredibly grateful for EVC Hensel’s guidance and support.”
The listening tour is being organized by the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor & University Provost in collaboration with administrative representatives from each CUNY campus. This is the first comprehensive listening tour of the CUNY system that an Executive Vice Chancellor has undertaken.

Executive Vice Chancellor Hensel has a decade of academic leadership experience at Georgia State University (GSU) in Atlanta, including roles as provost and senior vice president of academic affairs and as dean of their College of Law. A legal scholar who has served on GSU’s faculty since 1999, Executive Vice Chancellor Hensel is also a leading expert in disability law, policy and ethics.
As CUNY’s chief academic officer and chief executive of the Office of Academic Affairs, Executive Vice Chancellor Hensel oversees ongoing initiatives to improve student transfer, reimagine Black, Race and Ethnic Studies and Graduate Education, and foster innovation in pedagogy and instruction. She also oversees CUNY’s faculty and student affairs; research programs; student inclusion initiatives; efforts to promote student mental health and wellness; K-16 initiatives and efforts to promote enrollment growth; student success and research evaluation; and academic programs and policies.
Executive Vice Chancellor Hensel is a cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School and earned a bachelor’s in American public affairs with highest honors from Michigan State University, where she was a Harry S. Truman scholar and an intern at the United States Supreme Court. In a 1991 national search, Conde Nast named Executive Vice Chancellor Hensel among the country’s top 10 college women in the U.S. in the areas of politics and national affairs.
About Stella and Charles Guttman Community College
Stella and Charles Guttman Community College welcomed its inaugural cohort of students in August 2012. It was CUNY’s first new community college in more than forty years with the purpose of reimagining a community college that would create a research-based innovative academic program geared to moving students quickly and efficiently towards graduation. Guttman’s graduation rates are the highest in CUNY’s community college sector. The three-year graduation rate is more than twice the national average, and the two-year graduation rate far exceeds the 4% national average of public two-year colleges in large cities. Guttman is federally designated as a Hispanic-serving institution and Minority-serving institution with more than 90% of the student population identifying at Latinx/a/o or Black/African-American.
