What to Expect
At Guttman, you’ll work closely with an academic advisor upon entry through graduation. Your advisor will provide you with academic, career and transfer planning support.

SSA
Your Student Success Advisor (SSA) will help you make a smooth transition to college and guide you through your academic career at the College.
First Year Seminar 101
During the Bridge Program and through the first semester, you’ll meet with your SSA during a weekly advisory session called First Year Seminar 101: Learning about Being a Successful Student (LABSS). The seminar will provide you with the tools and knowledge needed to be a successful college student.
Programs and Events
You will have the opportunity to engage in various programs and events that promote transfer. Through these activities Student Success Advisors alongside our Transfer Specialist will help cultivate your interest in transfer and guide you with exploring majors, selecting the right senior college for you, completing transfer applications, and much more.
Advising Framework
We follow a three-tiered advising framework rooted in the appreciative advising model, which will serve as a thread throughout your journey at the College.
Appreciative Advising Model
During the First Year Experience (FYE), we utilize a proactive advising model that asks open-ended questions, anticipates your needs and helps you achieve your goals.
As you enter your program of study (major), we shift to a coaching model that identifies personal strengths, recommends appropriate resources and develops goal-oriented action plans that promote success as you transition to a four-year institution or the workforce.
They took the time to take care of me, to understand my situation.
