NEW YORK, N.Y. (December 6, 2022) – Guttman Community College has appointed Dr. Daniel Ambrose as Interim Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs. Dr. Ambrose will provide executive oversight and leadership within the newly created Division of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs.

“Students are my top priority, and I look forward to serving them in a new capacity at the College. My focus will be on streamlining operations, improving decision making and providing support for a wide array of programs and services that help our students succeed,” said Dr. Ambrose.

The College will rely on Dr. Ambrose’s expertise to leverage institutional data in the development and implementation of programs to increase student retention, persistence, success and graduation. An integral member of the College, Dr. Ambrose joined in August 2012 as the associate director of mentoring before becoming interim dean of enrollment management.

“Dr. Ambrose is uniquely qualified to head our new division, as he has served as an unwavering advocate of and mentor to Guttman students,” said Stella and Charles Guttman Community College President Dr. Larry Johnson. “His commitment to our students and the College over the past 10 years has been extraordinary, and his dynamic and visionary leadership will enhance the social development and academic success of our increasingly diverse student body.”

The new division will accommodate the growth and full range of enrollment management and student services. The organizational change restructured the Office of Student Engagement into two departments, Office of Student Affairs and Office of Enrollment Management, to better serve the distinct needs of each area.

In addition to his tenure with the College, Dr. Ambrose has over fifteen years of ascending professional experience in academic advisement, enrollment management, crisis management, culturally responsive leadership curriculum design and program development. Dr. Ambrose holds a Doctorate in Education, Educational Leadership, Administration, and Policy from Fordham University and a Master of Science in Higher Education Student Affairs from Indiana University.

Dr. Ambrose’s appointment will become effective December 12, 2022.

Stella and Charles Guttman Community College welcomed its inaugural cohort of students in August 2012. It was CUNY’s first new community college in more than forty years with the purpose of reimagining a community college that would create a research-based innovative academic program geared to moving students quickly and efficiently towards graduation. The three-year graduation rate is more than twice the national average, and the two-year graduation rate far exceeds the 4% national average of public two-year colleges in large cities. Guttman is federally designated as a Hispanic-serving institution and Minority-serving institution with more than 90% of the student population identifying at Latinx/a/o or Black/African American. More than 80% of Guttman graduates go on to senior colleges, with many of them continuing at CUNY schools. Guttman’s high graduation rates contribute greatly to the College being ranked as the best community college in America in 2020, and the top community college in New York State for 2020, 2021 and 2022 by Niche.com and other ranking agencies.
