New track ensures Business Administration program graduates will be in a position to transfer to a four-year program or enter the workforce

Students studying together with laptopsNew York, N.Y. (March 10, 2023)—On February 10, 2023, the New York State Education Department approved a new program at Stella and Charles Guttman Community College: Business Administration, A.A.—International Business Track.

“The College is thrilled to offer this unique opportunity for students to specialize in international business at the associate-degree level. Not only will the program expand students’ future professional opportunities, but it will also contribute to students’ developing worldviews at a time of global interconnection,” said Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Nicola Blake.

In keeping with the College’s plans to expand its offerings and grow enrollment, the International Business track will attract new students and provide a timely opportunity to deepen students’ understanding of business in a global context. Geared toward a career in international business, the program will provide students with a strong understanding of the economic, cultural, social and political dynamics of the field. Liberal arts and science courses complement those in business to provide students with a breadth of perspective and analytical skills, including four new courses tailored to the track.

Upon graduation, students will have a variety of opportunities to continue their education at several local universities offering International Business programs at the baccalaureate level, such as Baruch College, Brooklyn College, Fordham University and New York University. Graduates may also choose to enter the workforce, pursuing careers in sales, marketing, international logistics or international business development. This track will be led by Guttman faculty member Dr. Naveen Seth.

Stella and Charles Guttman Community College was CUNY’s first new community college in more than forty years. Reimagining what community college could be, Guttman opened its doors in Manhattan in August 2012 to create a research-based, innovative model focused on moving students efficiently toward graduation. Offering associate degree programs in a nurturing environment, the College’s three-year graduation rate consistently surpasses the national average, and most graduates transfer to senior colleges. Guttman is federally designated as a Hispanic-serving institution and minority-serving institution with more than 85% of the student population identifying as Latine or Black/African American. The College was named the best community college in America in 2020 and the top community college in New York State for 2020, 2021 and 2022 by Niche.com and other ranking agencies.
