For current students and alumni who enjoyed their civic engagement experiences at Guttman and are considering careers in government administration or community-based service, Guttman’s Office of the President and its Center for Career Preparation and Community Partnerships (CCPP) collaborated to host two information sessions.

On 4/24, Robert Pagan (senior advisor for partnerships, alumni engagement & development) and Greicy Wong (assistant to President’s Office) joined Patricia Jean (CCPP director) and partnered with Melissa Chauca (national service recruitment coordinator, NYC Service AmeriCorps) for an informative session about the NYC Service AmeriCorps program. AmeriCorps offers members the opportunity to gain real-world professional experience through a 10-month paid service term (September–June) at a city agency or nonprofit. While tackling some of New York City’s most pressing challenges, they develop critical skills in project management, community outreach, and volunteer engagement. The program also provides robust training and career planning support, connecting participants with a network of future public service leaders. This was a hybrid event with a strong turnout with 32 attendees, consisting of both students and alumni.

The second info session, held on 5/1, featured NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) Government Careers. Pagan and Wong joined Shaina Davis (CCPP internship manager) to welcome Donelle G. Brown and Christine Emmanuel of DCAS who described to over 20 students and alumni the civil service job opportunities in city government that offer resources and networking opportunities. DCAS provides city agencies with the resources and support needed to succeed, including: recruiting, hiring and training; managing public buildings; acquiring, selling and leasing city property, purchasing goods and services, overseeing the greenest municipal vehicle fleet in the country, and leading efforts to reduce carbon emissions from government operations. This event was also offered in hybrid format.

Students had additional career-building opportunities during the month, including a 5/7 event entitled “Building Your LinkedIn” sponsored by CUNY Edge and CUNY LEADS, a 5/8 Career Panel with the Mayor’s Office hosted by United Men of Color (UMOC), and the CCPP-led trip to NYPL’s Job Fair & Expo 2025 on 5/23.
