New Partnerships Create Clear Transfer Pathways for Students Pursuing Careers in Health and Human Services, Business and Biology

New York, N.Y. (January 27, 2026) — Stella and Charles Guttman Community College of The City University of New York (“Guttman”) and St. John’s University (“St. John’s”) have entered into three new articulation agreements to provide Guttman graduates with streamlined transfer pathways into bachelor programs at St. John’s.
The agreements establish a structured academic bridge between the two institutions, enabling Guttman students who complete associate degrees in Human Services, Business Administration and Science to transition efficiently into the corresponding bachelor’s degree programs at St. John’s: Health and Human Services, Business and Biology respectively.
“This collaboration continues Guttman’s commitment to access and social mobility for our students,” said Guttman Interim President de León Bhargava. “The seamless transfer to St. John’s allows Guttman students to complete their degree in Biology, Business, or Human Services with the skills and knowledge to be an asset to these industries.”
Under the agreement, eligible Guttman graduates will receive recognition for completed coursework toward the corresponding programs at St. John’s, allowing them to build on their academic foundation while minimizing duplication of coursework.
“Guttman and St. John’s share a commitment to opening opportunities to a diverse group of students, especially those from New York City,” Guttman Provost Reifenheiser said. “To enhance that mission, we’ve made it easier to transition between our schools for students in Biology, Human Services, and Business. These three articulation agreements create pathways for students who want to experience both the largest urban public university in the country and a private pillar of our city’s educational ecosystem. On a more personal note, as an alum of St. John’s—having earned my master’s there—I know our students will gain an education at both schools rooted in respect, dignity, and care.”
The agreements take effect beginning in 2025 and underscore both institutions’ missions to expand transfer pathways that support workforce development and meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in competitive academic and career fields.
“These program-to-program agreements allow for a seamless transfer, where Guttman students have a clear guide to how their courses are transferring as well as the admission criteria to enter the program of interest at St. John’s,” said Melissa Mirabella, associate director, Transfer Student Services at St. John’s. “Guttman students benefit from this transparency and enter our programs academically prepared. We look forward to building on this partnership through campus visits and transfer admission presentations in the upcoming months.”
