Headcount Exceeds 1,000 Students for the Spring 2025 Semester
New York, N.Y. (March 31, 2025) – Guttman Community College welcomed 1,008 students for the Spring 2025 semester, representing the highest spring enrollment in the history of the College. Full-time equivalents (FTEs) increased by 75% from 403 students in Spring 2024 to 702 in Spring 2025.
“Through collaborative engagement with both the campus and external communities, Guttman has achieved this significant milestone. The strategic reorganization of functional areas, with a sharp focus on enrollment and retention, was crucial to the institution’s success. I am thrilled that the dedication and efforts of the enrollment team have led to this outstanding outcome,” said Guttman President Larry Johnson, Jr.
The spring enrollment total includes 52 first-year, 23 transfer and 52 readmit students. In addition to degree-seeking students, the spring headcount includes 188 non-degree students who are part of College Now, a free dual-enrollment program for high school students at New York City Public Schools. This is the highest College Now enrollment in College history as well.
Strategic enrollment efforts drove these record-high numbers through expanded recruitment, targeted text nudges and enhanced registration outreach by the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs. Proactive engagement with prospective and continuing students, including personalized reminders and direct advising, boosted new enrollments as well as retention. Additionally, the Office of Marketing and Communications ran a comprehensive advertising campaign to build awareness of the College and to encourage applications leading up to the spring semester.
“These achievements are a testament to the collective efforts of the enrollment team and the entire college community,” said Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs Danny Ambrose. “Through collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to student success, we have strengthened our enrollment strategies and created more opportunities for students to thrive at Guttman.”
The enrollment boost comes on the heels of three new academic programs – Accounting; Liberal Arts: Secondary Education, Social Studies; and a fully online Liberal Arts program – launched in Fall 2024. The new options reflect in-demand programs that prepare students for meaningful careers.
The program additions expand upon the incredible growth Guttman has experienced in recent years, including the introduction of a Health Information Technology program in Spring 2024 and International Business, Cybersecurity and Networking tracks in Fall 2023. During the latter semester, the College launched a Cybersecurity certificate program in collaboration with Henry Street Settlement and also began accepting transfer students for the first time.
The Fall 2023 semester saw the highest fall enrollment since the College opened in August 2012. That semester, 1,103 students enrolled, representing a 29% increase over the prior fall semester.
Guttman is now accepting applications for Fall 2025 and Spring 2026. Details can be found at guttman.cuny.edu/apply.
