New York, NY (March 31, 2025) – Guttman Community College is pleased to announce the appointment of Anita Luckett as the new dean of workforce development and continuing education. With more than fifteen years of experience bridging education, employment and social support for underserved communities, Dean Luckett brings a wealth of expertise and a deep commitment to student success.

“We are elated to welcome Anita Luckett to Guttman Community College in this critical new role. Her expertise and experience in workforce program development and partnerships will be invaluable as we expand this innovative academic model, equipping our graduates with the skills needed for upward social mobility,” said Dr. Larry Johnson, Guttman president.

Dean Luckett’s career spans multiple leadership roles in education, social services and workforce development. Most recently, she served as Borough Director at the Queens Transition and College Access Center (TCAC) with New York City Public Schools, where she facilitated the transition of students with disabilities into adult life. She also previously served as Director of Social Services at the Human Resources Administration (HRA), where she developed career pathways in high-demand fields such as healthcare and technology.

“Dean Luckett’s accomplishments, experience, and leadership are clear delineated. However, her extensive resume doesn’t fully express her impressive drive, passion, and interpersonal skills. I am sure that she will lead our burgeoning workforce development and continuing education programs with great aplomb as she showcases her ability to build, sustain, and grow partnerships that will benefit our community, college, and students,” said Paul Reifenheiser, provost and vice president of Academic Affairs.

Dean Luckett’s leadership extends to the nonprofit sector; she served as executive director of a Brooklyn-based organization focused on housing and early childhood initiatives. In addition to her leadership roles, Dean Luckett has spent the past eight years as a career development instructor and instructional designer at LaGuardia Community College. Throughout her career, Dean Luckett has prioritized community collaboration and equity, ensuring that the voices of those served remain at the heart of program development.

“For over fifteen years, I have been dedicated to helping people build better lives by bridging education, employment, and social support for underserved communities,” said Luckett. “I firmly believe in the transformative power of education and workforce training. I look forward to getting to know the Guttman community and working together to engage and empower our students.”

Stella and Charles Guttman Community College was CUNY’s first new community college in more than forty years. Reimagining what community college could be, Guttman opened its doors in Manhattan in August 2012 to create a research-based, innovative model focused on moving students efficiently toward graduation. Offering associate degree programs in a nurturing environment, the College provides holistic support and advising to ensure timely degree completion, and most graduates transfer to senior colleges. Guttman is federally designated as a Hispanic-serving institution and minority-serving institution with more than 90% of the student population identifying as Latine, Black/African American or Asian. Niche.com named Guttman the best community college in America in 2020 and the top community college in New York State in 2021.
