Dear Guttman Community,

It is with heartfelt gratitude and deep reflection that I share my decision to step down as president of Stella and Charles Guttman Community College, effective July 10, 2025. Pending approval from the CUNY Board of Trustees, I will assume the role of president at Bronx Community College beginning July 14.

Leading this extraordinary institution since July 1, 2021, has been among the most meaningful chapters of my professional journey. Together, we have cultivated a culture rooted in equity, innovation, and student-centered excellence.

One of the proudest achievements during my tenure has been our historic enrollment growth. In Fall 2023, we welcomed 1,103 students, the highest fall enrollment since the College’s inception in 2012—marking a 29% increase over the previous year.

We also established the Career Innovation Hub, reimagined the College’s digital presence, and expanded our academic offerings. Notably, we introduced new certificate and associate degree programs in Cybersecurity and Secondary Education in Social Studies, as well as two fully online programs in Liberal Arts and Health Information Technology. Our success in securing over $5 million in grant funding has further empowered us to enhance student support services, develop new career pathways, and strengthen our institutional infrastructure.

These accomplishments reflect the strength of our collective efforts. They include strategic initiatives such as the launch of the Guttman Forward 2028 Strategic Plan, along with supporting plans like the Strategic Enrollment Management Plan and the Academic Master Plan.

As I prepare to embark on the next chapter of my journey, I do so with immense pride in what we have achieved together. I am confident that Guttman will continue to thrive, guided by the unwavering commitment and passion of its faculty, staff, and students.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve this remarkable community. It has been an honor to lead alongside you. You will remain in my heart always. As you continue in service to this great institution, know that the best is still yet to come!

With deepest appreciation,

Dr. Larry D. Johnson, Jr.
