President’s Speaker Series – Strength, Courage, and Resilience in the 21st Century: Juvanie Piquant

The Guttman Community College President’s Speaker Series seeks to illuminate the stories of key figures in New York City.  The Series also aims to introduce the Guttman community to persons who are champions for student success and community colleges. This year’s theme is entitled, “Strength, Courage, and Resilience in the 21st Century” to reflect the nation’s grapple with two pandemics: health and social and racial injustices. Join Guttman President Dr. Larry Johnson, Jr. as he engages in lively virtual discussions with guests every month. Events are free and open to the public.

The first speaker to join Dr. Johnson is Juvanie Piquant, the first Haitian American woman to serve as the University Student Senate (USS) Chairperson. She represents more than 500,000 CUNY students in New York State and is the only student member of the City University of New York Board of Trustees. She is an aspiring attorney, completing her Bachelor’s degree in Law and Paralegal Studies at New York City College of Technology.

Sunset Salsa is led by world-renowned instructor Talia Castro-Pozo, celebrated as “The Woman of Salsa” by Latina Magazine. Whether you’re a novice or an advanced dancer, Talia starts with beginner Salsa lessons before kicking off the night with a sizzling party.

This is a free event and all are welcome, however, registration in advance is required for this event.

Finally, after hosting this program virtually with the LGBT Network for over a year now, local Queens celeb and performer, Avant Garbage is finally ready to host Adult Drag Gayme Night in person at a new Queens Center location.

These unpredictable games will keep you on your toes with endless belly laughs to help you decompress from a hectic week. You will play games such as Werewolf, Jackbox TV, Among Us, Scattegories, Pictionary, Cards Against Humanity and more!!

This is a free in-person event and all are welcome. Located inside Kaufman Studios on 35-11 35th Avenue in Queens.
